Hope. When I asked google what the definition of hope is, I got “a feeling of expectation and desire for a certain thing to happen.” We all hope for things, don’t we? We hope that certain relationships will change. We hope for jobs, for children, to be able to buy a house in this crazy housing market. We hope and then we wait. Sometimes we wait a long time for the things we hope for. This Sunday the writer to the Hebrews will tell us that “we have this hope as an anchor for the soul.” For those of you who have dropped an anchor before, you know that it’s important where the anchor lands.

One summer I worked on houseboats in California with preteens and teenagers coming for week of fun on the lake and talks about Jesus. I was in charge of dropping the anchor every day. Sometimes I had to drop the anchor more than one time. If the anchor landed in the water the houseboat would continue to be tossed about by wind or waves from other boats. But if I got the anchor in deep, the anchor stuck and the boat was immovable.

What does it mean to “drop the anchor” as Christians? The Hebrews writer will show us how to get it deep.

Also, please mark your calendars for Thursday, November 14 at 6:00pm.  We will be honoring Pastor Mike and Gail Young with a retirement party.  The party will be at Nile Golf & Country Club.  Save the date because You Are Invited! Then be sure to RSVP.  -Adults only please- We’ll have more information in the bulletin this Sunday and an RSVP table will be set-up in the Upper Foyer.

With joy,
Andrea
