Friends,

We’re beginning to see light at the end of this tunnel, at least when it comes to social distancing and stay-home directives. You may have heard that Gov. Inslee has eased restrictions on gathering for houses of worship. However, at this point houses of worship in King County—still at Phase One--may only gather their congregants outdoors, and social distancing measures must still be observed. Given this, I want to clearly state that our congregation will NOT be meeting on-site. We WILL continue to livestream the morning worship service at 10AM PDST on our Facebook page.

Some have asked about the change in the song portion of our live-streamed service. Though we will continue to feature singing during the service, it will now be pre-recorded so that only Jamie is in the recording space as she sings. Previously, Jamie and Tim were on-site performing live during the service. But research has shown that singing affects droplet spread, in fact, it aerosolizes the virus making it small enough to pass through protective face masks and because of its state, the virus, in this form, remains suspended in the air for hours after release. This is not to say that Jamie or anyone else in our crew is knowingly  infected—thus far no one in our immediate livestream team shows symptoms of COVID-19, but as medicine learns more about this virus, we learn that people can be asymptomatic carriers, so out of an abundance of caution, in order to safeguard the health and well-being of our team, the congregation, and the community around us, we are no longer singing in the sanctuary for the time being.

Remember our upcoming congregational meeting to elect nominees for the APNC (Associate Pastor Nominating Committee) on Sunday, June 7 at 11AM via Zoom.  You will find a letter from me on our website (LFPPC.org) that gives some background for our congregational meeting. To register for the meeting, please send your name and email contact info to . Because this meeting will call for a vote, our polity requires every participant to use their own device. Further information on this is in the letter I posted to the website. Next week you will receive information on how to access the meeting. If you haven’t used Zoom, you will find instructions on how to use Zoom on our website in the announcement scroll—it’s called “Tips for Using Zoom.”

This Sunday is Pentecost, and we will be reading the text from Acts 2:1-21. There will be a surprise during the reading—but you’ll have to watch to get it. Read ahead to seed your thought, AND you can get a head start by listening to Kim’s weekly devotion for last week on the church Facebook page where he discusses Acts 2. You’ll will find helpful insight and information I’m fairly sure will be new to most there—thanks Kim!

Warmly,
—frank
