Sunday Service 03-15-2020

We won’t be meeting in person this Sunday. Below you will find a service outline that you can use to guide a worship experience.

Opening Prayer:

Gracious and Kind God, we lift our hearts in grateful thanksgiving to You as we come to You this morning expectant for how You will bless, fill, renew, sustain, and call us into deeper life, greater service, and abiding joy.  We offer ourselves to You and open ourselves to Your Spirit inviting you to develop Your purpose in us. Though all around us there is uncertainty, we are ever certain of Your great love and trust in Your provision for this day and every day.  Lead us in this time of worship—be glorified in our praise, through Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit now and ever, Amen.

A Reading from the Psalms—Psalm 67

May God be gracious to us and bless us
      and make his face shine on us—
so that your ways may be know on earth,
     your salvation among all nations.

May the peoples praise you, God;
     may all the peoples praise you.
May the nations be glad and sing for joy,
     for you rule the peoples with equity
     and guide the nations of the earth.
May the peoples praise you, god;
     may all the peoples praise you.

The land yields its harvest;
     God, our God, blesses us.
May God bless us still,
     so that all the ends of the earth will revere him.

A Reading from the Epistles—2 Corinthians 1:3-5

Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of compassion and the God of all comfort, who comforts us in all our troubles, so that we can comfort those in any trouble with the comfort we ourselves receive from God.  For just as we share abundantly in the sufferings of Christ, so also our comfort abounds through Christ.

Prayers of the People

God of all comfort who journeys with us in all of life, we ask you for grace and mercy in our time of need.  You hear us when we pray, You are faithful in all Your ways, we trust You for this day and every day, so in the time of our distress, we pray with thanksgiving…

    • for our world as it responds to the global presence of Coronavirus and COVID-19. Give wisdom and skill to leaders and medical researchers as they plan and study for the greater good of the peoples they lead,
    • for those who are afflicted with this virus and suffer its effects.  Bring comfort, wholeness, strength, and healing to those caught in its grip,
    • for health care providers—physicians, nurses, aides, technicians—for their well-being as they serve during this very challenging pandemic. Sustain them, protect them, provide them with skill, insight, compassion, and support as they labor on our behalf,
    • for families dealing with new challenges, economic hardships, uncertain outcomes as routines are displaced and security is threatened. Provide for and sustain them in this time,
    • for at risk populations, that anxiety be replaced with assurance that You are ever present. May they experience your peace and be kept in your great love,
    • for those experiencing homelessness and the underserved around us, for opportunities to find shelter, assistance, and services to lead them into wholeness, provision, and sufficiency,
    • for our nation as it responds to this health crisis. In your mercy pour out your goodness and blessing on our political leaders—the President, Administration, Governors, County Executives, Mayors—that they receive good counsel and make sound decisions for the welfare of those whom they serve.
    • for each of us in our personal concerns and the challenges we face—may we find You faithful in this, and may Your goodness sustain us providing what we need in our moment of need,
    • and specifically for these…(pray for those close to you, and those you know in need)

We know that you hear us, for which we are grateful. Sustain us as only You can for we trust in You.  Through Christ our Lord, AMEN
